Art Auction 2010
Rock Paper Scissors Collective
Saturday September 25, 2010 7-10pm $5 admission*
Its that time again! COME OUT AND BUY SOME AWESOME ART! We have work from all over the Bay that will tingle your senses. Enjoy a night of live music, food, drinks, great people and INTERESTING ART – all at a reasonable price.
All the proceeds will go to RPSC’s general operating costs. So we can continue to offer low-cost and free classes, amazing free gallery exhibitions, and hand made goodies in our retail section.
*No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

We’re gonna try this again! Rock Paper Scissors Collective announces a call to artists for original works of art on sneakers, skateboards or knuckles. While we would prefer to have the physical pieces, photos will be accepted. We’ve noticed it’s especially difficult to display knuckles that are still attached to people. Artists currently residing in or having a strong connection the Oakland Bay Area will be given preference.
Please send no more than three 300dpi JPEGs in a zip file no larger than 10mb per email to gallery@rpscollective.com. There is no entry fee. Submission deadline is September 5, 2010.
Notification of acceptance by September 12th. Accepted pieces must be ready for display and delivered to RPS in person Saturday, September 25 or Sunday, May 26 from noon – 7pm or via mail by September 25.
Work to be shown in the RPSC Gallery October 1 – 22.

Gallery
This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in gallery curating practices and procedures. The Gallery Committee facilitates and coordinates RPS Collective’s active exhibition program, including the review, development, and implementation. The work is primarily administrative (emailing, phone calls, other projects) and supports both long-range planning and short-term project development but also includes some actual installation. The Committee interfaces primarily with artists, patrons and other RPSC staff. Interns may work on a variety of projects that support the development and implementation of gallery exhibitions. Please contact JenZoom at galleryatrpscollectivedotcom. Thanks!

Rock Paper Scissors will be offering internships for Fall 2010 to work with our committees, including Gallery, Classes, Events, Retail, Volunteer, Outreach, and Community Collaborations.
Interns will work with committee coordinators to complete projects agreed upon by the coordinator and the intern. We are looking for an approximately 10 hour/week commitment, but are flexible and open to different schedules. We are happy to help with receiving class credit, but cannot offer any financial compensation.
To apply, please send a resume and brief letter of introduction in the body of an e-mail to volunteer[at]rpscollective[dot]com. Please indicate in the letter which (multiple is ok!) committees you are interested in working with and write for the subject something including the words “fall 2010 internship”. Application deadline is September 20th, 2010. You will hear back within two weeks of contacting us.
Also, feel free to contact us with questions. Thanks!

Hey folks -
Are you tired of wasting energy on your washing machine. Feel like lowering the ol PG&E bills and raising the power of your legs? Well we’ve got just the thing for you!
Aaron, who built the human-powered washing machine that appeared in Beyond Bicycles this month, is looking for temporary home for the washer. It’d be good if it gets a lot of use, so if you live in a big house and are open to letting your friends and neighbors in on the action, it’s a plus!
interested – send an email to beyondbikes _[at]_rpscollective(dot)com

February 12, 2010; 7:30 p.m. @ L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA
Come dance and draw the night away with Rock Paper Scissors. The floors, ceilings, ramps, and nooks of Gallery B will be covered in paper for your drawing pleasure. Artist DJs will be spinning tunes while we cover the blank space with marker. You are invited to draw and then dance, to dance and then draw, or to do both at the same time! The artwork will remain on display through the weekend. Come and leave your mark in the museum!
Preceded at 6 p.m. by one of our favorite KALX DJs spinning in the lobby, where wine and beer are available for purchase.

We are proud to announce that we will be doing a screening of Handmade Nation, a documentary about DIY culture in America.
Faythe Levine traveled 19,000 miles to document what has emerged as a marriage between historical technique, punk culture, and the d.i.y. ethos. For HANDMADE NATION she and Cortney Heimerl have selected 24 makers and 5 essayists who work within different media and have different methodologies to provide a microcosm of the crafting community. Participants in this community share ideas and encouragement through websites, blogs, boutiques, galleries, and craft fairs. Together they have forged a new
economy and lifestyle based on creativity, determination, and networking.
twenty-four artists from Olympia, Washington to Providence, Rhode Island, and everywhere in between show their work and discuss their lives.
The screening will be held on February 12th at 7pm, followed by a talk with director Faythe Levine. Admission is a sliding scale of $7-$10 at the door.
